Prefab domes, pyramids and custom cube homes, explained.

Gen-Built designs and manufactures prefab geodesic domes, pyramid buildings and custom modular cube homes. Stainless-steel frames, magnesium-oxide and phenolic-foam insulated panels, designed in a free online 3D studio with live pricing, built in 45 days and shipped worldwide in containers.

In short: Gen-Built makes three kinds of prefab building — geodesic domes, pyramids and custom cube housing — on a stainless-steel frame with insulated panels of magnesium-oxide board and phenolic foam faced in stainless steel. You design yours in our free online 3D studio, the kit is manufactured in 45 days, shipped in containers and bolted together on site in two to four weeks.

About Gen-Built

Gen-Built is a prefab building company. We make three kinds of geometric structures — geodesic domes, pyramids and custom cube housing — all from the same stainless-steel frame and insulated-panel system, and all designed in our free online 3D studio.

What does Gen-Built make?

Gen-Built makes prefab geodesic domes, pyramid buildings and custom modular cube homes. Every structure is a flat-packed kit: a stainless-steel frame plus insulated structural panels, manufactured to your design, shipped in containers and bolted together on site. You design it yourself in our online 3D studio at gen-built.com, where the price, bill of materials and container count update live as you build.

What is the Gen-Built 3D studio?

The Gen-Built studio is a free, browser-based 3D configurator for designing a dome, pyramid or cube home. You draw a floor plan on an 8 ft grid, add walls, doors, windows, floors, roofs, decks and stairs, choose panel materials and insulation, and see a costed 3D model instantly. It also produces the bill of materials, the container packing list and a delivery timeline, and you can walk through your design in VR.

Who buys Gen-Built buildings?

Homeowners, developers, resorts, glamping and retreat operators, growers and event organisers. The same kit system covers a permanent insulated home, a greenhouse, an event dome or a pyramid venue, so a project can mix all three building types on one site.

Where does Gen-Built deliver?

Worldwide. Kits leave our factory through the port of Shenzhen (Yantian) in 40 ft high-cube shipping containers, with scheduled routes to North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Southeast and East Asia, India, the Middle East and Africa. The studio detects your delivery region from your address and shows the transit time for it.

Domes, pyramids and cube homes

Three building types, one engineered system. The frame is stainless steel, the skin is our insulated panel, and every part is cut and drilled at the factory so the kit bolts together on site.

What geodesic domes does Gen-Built make?

Gen-Built geodesic domes are prefab domes built on a stainless-steel strut-and-hub frame clad with our insulated panels or clear glazing panels. They are used as homes, retreat and glamping units, greenhouses and event spaces. A dome shell encloses the most floor area for the least material and stands up well to wind and snow, and like all our kits it ships flat in containers and is assembled on site without welding.

What pyramid buildings does Gen-Built make?

Gen-Built pyramids are prefab square pyramids from 8 ft to 128 ft across the base, built on a stainless-steel octet space-truss frame with fast-connect hubs and clad with insulated or clear panels. Sizes run from 1V to 16V — one V is one 8 ft module, so a 7V pyramid is 56 ft wide. Faces can be set to the Great Pyramid pitch of 51.8° (Phi) or a shallower 45° pitch (KS), each wall can carry doors, windows and glass, and larger pyramids take a second floor with a staircase.

What is custom cube housing?

Custom cube housing is Gen-Built’s modular home system built from 8 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft cube modules on a stainless-steel post-and-beam frame. You draw the floor plan square by square: cubes join side by side and stack into two or more storeys, any cube can stretch by 4 ft, and every wall panel is set individually to solid, window, glass or door. Roofs can be flat, slanted or pyramid-capped, and decks, covered decks and stairs are part of the kit, so the result is a fully custom home rather than a fixed model.

How big can a Gen-Built building be?

Pyramids range from an 8 ft 1V up to a 128 ft 16V with roughly 16,000 sq ft of floor. Cube homes have no fixed limit: the floor plan grows one 8 ft module at a time in any direction and in height, with cube cores from 16 ft to 40 ft square being the most common starting point. Domes are sized to the project.

Panels and materials

The walls, floors and roofs are structural insulated panels (SIPs) made in our factory: magnesium-oxide board faces, a phenolic-foam insulating core, and stainless-steel outer layers.

What are Gen-Built panels made of?

Gen-Built panels are structural insulated panels with magnesium-oxide (MgO) board faces bonded to a phenolic-foam core, finished with stainless-steel outer layers. Magnesium oxide board is a non-combustible, mould- and moisture-resistant mineral board; phenolic foam is a closed-cell insulation with one of the highest R-values per inch and very low smoke emission; and the stainless-steel skin gives a hard, weather-proof, corrosion-resistant exterior that never needs painting. Each panel is cut to its exact place in the frame and bolts on.

Why magnesium oxide instead of plywood or OSB?

Magnesium-oxide board does not burn, rot, swell or feed mould or termites, and it stays dimensionally stable in humid and coastal climates where wood-faced panels degrade. It is also silica-free and emits no formaldehyde, so the inside of a Gen-Built building has no off-gassing from its structure.

Why phenolic foam insulation?

Phenolic foam gives more insulation per millimetre than EPS, XPS or polyurethane, so a thinner panel reaches the same R-value, which saves container space and shipping cost. It is also fire-resistant with low smoke and low toxicity when exposed to flame, and it does not absorb water.

What do the stainless-steel outer layers do?

The stainless-steel outer layers protect the panel core from weather, impact and UV, and give the building its long-life exterior finish. Stainless does not rust, chalk or need recoating, so there is no exterior maintenance cycle like painted steel or timber cladding.

What insulation values are available?

Three panel thicknesses: R-7 at 40 mm, R-14 at 64 mm and R-21 at 96 mm. R-21 is the warmest and the right choice for a year-round home in a cold climate; R-7 suits warm climates, greenhouses and event structures. Thicker panels cost more and pack fewer per container, and the studio shows both effects as you switch.

What are the EVE, BIO and GEO material lines?

They are the three panel lines in the studio. GEO is the permanent-building line, with insulated solid panels and glass glazing. BIO is the greenhouse line, with light-transmitting polycarbonate glazing. EVE is the events line, the lightest and lowest-cost, with PVC glazing for temporary or seasonal structures. Every line comes in solid and clear panels and uses the same frame.

Can I choose where windows, glass walls and doors go?

Yes, panel by panel. Every 8 ft wall panel in a cube home, and every face tile of a pyramid, can be set to solid, window, full glass or door in the studio, and the bill of materials updates with it. Pyramids take small, medium or large doors on any of the four walls.

Frame and structure

Every Gen-Built structure stands on a stainless-steel frame. Pyramids and domes use a space-truss of square tube and hubs; cube homes use stainless posts and beams with hub connectors.

What is the frame made of?

Stainless steel. Pyramid and dome frames are an octet space truss of square stainless-steel tube joined at every node by a stainless hub connector; cube homes use 100 mm square stainless posts with stainless beams and joists, joined by T-axis hub connectors. Stainless steel does not corrode, so the frame suits coastal, tropical and high-rainfall sites and carries no repainting schedule.

How is a Gen-Built building assembled?

It bolts together. Every tube, post, beam and hub arrives cut, drilled and labelled to match the drawings, so the frame goes up with hand tools and no site welding, then the panels bolt onto the frame. Smaller buildings go up without a crane; a typical build takes two to four weeks on site once the foundation is ready.

What foundation does a Gen-Built building need?

A simple one. Cube homes and pyramids stand on a concrete footing under each post or hub node, or on a slab; the studio can price a prefab foundation and a slab pad, or leave the base open for a foundation you build locally. Site conditions and local code decide the final design.

Can Gen-Built buildings have two storeys?

Yes. Cube homes stack to two or more storeys with a stainless floor frame between levels, and pyramids from about 5V upward take a second floor deck with a 4 ft or 8 ft wide staircase. The studio prices the extra floor framing, joists, deck and stairs automatically.

Designing your building

How do I design a home with Gen-Built?

Open the studio at gen-built.com and sign in. Start from a premade design or draw your own floor plan on the 8 ft grid, then set walls, windows, doors, roof type, decks and stairs, pick a panel line and insulation, and read the live cost breakdown. You can describe the home in words and let the Home Design Assistant draw a first layout, upload an existing floor plan to trace, or highlight any part of the 3D model and say what should change.

Are there rules for room sizes?

Yes, our design rules keep homes livable: every habitable room is at least 12 ft × 12 ft and usually larger, service rooms such as bathrooms, laundries and closets can be a single 8 ft module, ceilings span 16 to 24 ft without posts, and beds and wardrobes are placed against walls. The studio checks a plan against these rules as you draw.

Can I save and share my design?

Yes. Designs save to your profile with a thumbnail and price, and every pyramid and cube-roof model has a public link you can send to a partner, architect or lender that opens an interactive 3D view.

Can I walk through my design before I buy?

Yes. The studio has a first-person walk-through on desktop and phone and a VR mode for Meta Quest headsets, and you can render the building into a photoreal scene or onto photos of your own land.

Pricing and payment

How much does a Gen-Built dome, pyramid or cube home cost?

The price depends on the size, the panel line, the insulation thickness and the amount of glazing, doors and extra floors, so the studio prices each design live instead of publishing a list price. Build the design you want and the Cost Breakdown shows the shell, frame, floors, doors, foundation, shipping and timeline, with a full bill of materials you can export. Choosing the 45° KS pitch for a pyramid uses shorter members and saves about 15% on pipes and panels.

What is included in a Gen-Built kit?

The complete stainless-steel frame with hubs and fasteners, all insulated and glazed panels, doors, floor framing, decking and stairs as designed, cut, drilled and labelled, packed in containers with a packing list. Foundation, site work, utilities and interior fit-out are arranged locally and can be estimated in the studio.

How is payment structured?

Three milestones on the purchase order: a 30% deposit to start manufacturing, 30% at mid-production and the 40% balance before the kit ships. Taxes and duties in the destination country are billed separately.

Production timeline and shipping

From deposit to move-in is typically 10 to 15 weeks: 45 days of manufacturing, two to four weeks at sea, and two to four weeks of assembly.

How long does it take to get a Gen-Built building?

About 10 to 15 weeks from deposit to move-in. Manufacturing takes 45 days from the deposit, ocean freight from Shenzhen takes 14 to 30 days depending on your region, and assembly on site takes two to four weeks. The studio draws this as a dated timeline for your address as soon as you enter it.

How long does prefab production take?

45 days. Once the deposit is paid and the design is frozen, the frame members are cut and drilled, the panels are pressed and cut, doors and glazing are made, and everything is labelled and packed into containers in a 45-day production run. The 30% progress payment falls at the halfway point.

How long is shipping?

Between 14 and 30 days port to port from Shenzhen (Yantian). Typical transit: US West Coast 14–18 days, US Gulf and Central 20–26 days, US East Coast 28–30 days, Western Europe and the UK 28–30 days, Australia and New Zealand 16–22 days, Southeast Asia 14–16 days, East Asia about 14 days, India 18–22 days, the Gulf 20–26 days and Africa 24–30 days. Inland trucking from the port is extra and quoted per site.

How many containers does a building need?

The studio packs every design into 40 ft high-cube containers and shows the count and weight. A 7V pyramid is roughly one container; thicker insulation and more glass add containers because fewer panels fit per box. Pipes load first, then hubs, then panels, so freight is as low as the design allows.

How long does on-site assembly take?

Two to four weeks for a typical home or pyramid once the foundation is in. The frame is bolted up first, then panels, doors and glazing, then floors, decks and stairs. Smaller kits need no crane.
